One of the highlights during winter is the Short Eared Owls at Heartwood forest, they usually winter here from Europe and at the moment there are reported to be 4 to 5 of them there. The best time to see them is from early afternoon to dusk and sometimes early in the morning around dawn, although they will especially during the shorter days of winter be likely to be out more.
On the day i filmed this it was sadly quite windy up on the hill, but it does allow you to see how the Owl adapts and uses the wind to it's advantage.
Sadly the wind also makes the soundtrack to this rather noisy.
I hope to get back up there soon on a cool crisp sunny afternoon with little wind, then i think there will be some stunning chances to get some more film.
